I thoroughly enjoyed The Shining by Stephen King for many reasons. The Shining was unlike horror novels that I have previously read. Stephen King includes detailed descriptions and his character development is unrivaled. I felt like I was there throughout the entire book.
In addition to Mr. King’s writing style, I enjoyed the different perspective that he provides the reader throughout the book. I found it interesting that one of the most important characters, Danny, was a young child. This is not seen often in literature especially not in horror novels.
I appreciated Mr. King’s ability to capture the true character of a young child. This was perhaps one of the most impressive aspects of the entire book. As an adult, it is difficult to capture the thoughts and actions of a young child in a work of literature. Mr. King was able to capture the true curiosity and innocence of a young boy. Mr. King excelled at this throughout The Shining as the character of Danny was portrayed perfectly.
It seems as though the writing of Stephen King, in regards to horror, is unrivaled. His ability to capture the character of young Danny along with creating a storyline with many unexpected twists is excellent. He kept me hooked throughout the novel as I was always wondering what would happen next. Throughout The Shining I felt like I was at the Overlook Hotel. The descriptions provided by Mr. King were so detailed that I was able to create mental pictures throughout the storyline. The Shining was a great book and a must-read for literature and horror enthusiasts.
